“During my first match at the tournament I was thinking how awesome it would be to shoot the record,” said Stephan HANSEN. “I knew that Michael CAUWE had shot a 149 the day before, which I was pretty sure was the highest score so far.”

The eliminations matches for indoor compound competition switched to a straight-score 15-arrow match format when the new rulebook came into force on 1 April 2014, having been shot using the recurve set system for the past few years.

HANSEN only had two matches, so two chances, to shoot the perfect score at the small tournament in Denmark on 26 October. His first attempt didn’t go too well. He admitted that he’d recently changed his technique and wasn’t all that comfortable.

His second match – the competition’s gold final – went better: HANSEN started with a 30.

“I got more and more nervous as I got closer to the 150,” he recalled. “But I cleaned it all the way.”

“I had never shot a 150 in competition before – so I didn’t expect to do it in that one chance. It’s awesome to know I can call myself a world record holder.”

With the current level of compound athletes around the world, there will be many more 150s recorded. But HANSEN will forever be the first one to get there!

As of 1 December 2014, the following 15-arrow match world records stand:

Compound men: 150, Stephan HANSEN – shot in Taastrup (DEN) on 26 October 2014. Compound women: 149, Tanja JENSEN – shot in Taastrup (DEN) on 26 October 2014. Compound junior men: 150, Stephan HANSEN – shot in Taastrup (DEN) on 26 October 2014. Compound junior women: 149, Tanja JENSEN – shot in Taastrup (DEN) on 26 October 2014.
