Frith breaks W1 matchplay world record

She scored 144 out of a possible 150 points in a 15-arrow-match during the selection event, to break her own world record by three points.

The record was shot on 2 June and officially ratified on 10 June.

Frith is the two-time European Champion in the new women’s W1 category, which was introduced in 1 April 2014 as part of a set of new classification classes. She also collected individual silver and mixed team gold at the World Archery Championships in Donaueschingen in 2015.

W1 athletes can shoot with either a recurve bow or a compound bow, limited to 45lbs, and a mechanical release aid, but may not use magnifying sights, and shoot at compound faces set at 50 metres in international competition.

Although the British Paralympic team was not announced immediately following the selection tournament, Frith was selected for the team the nation is fielding at the upcoming para world ranking tournament in the Czech Republic.

Nove Mesto hosts the final world qualifying tournament for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games from 13 to 19 June. Britain already has the maximum available quota in the women’s W1 event.
